Lose weight

Blood pressure often depends upon the weight of your body. Blood pressure increases with an increase in body weight. Losing even a few pounds may help you to reduce blood pressure.
The more weight you lose, the lower your blood pressure will be. Also, the blood pressure medications you are taking will be more effective with reduced weight.

Exercise regularly

One should exercise regularly in order to keep a check on blood pressure. Regular exercise session on about 30-45 minutes can bring about changes in your blood pressure. Regular exercise is also beneficial for the hypertension patients.
If you are one of them you can exercise for at least 10-15 minutes every day. Walking, light strength training and power walks may help lower blood pressure. Develop an exercise program with the help of your doctor. Exercising too much at a time may prove risky.

Eat healthy

You can reduce blood pressure by cutting salt intake in your diet. Even a small reduction in the sodium in your diet can reduce blood pressure by 2 to 8 mm Hg. For this, avoid eating processed food.
To add flavors to your diet you may use herbs spices rather than salt. Do not cut salt suddenly from your diet, gradually decrease the intake of salt. Keep a track of the amount of salt you take.

Avoid smoking & consuming alcohol

Consuming lower amount of alcohol (i.e. one or two drinks a day) may be helpful in reducing blood pressure. But consuming alcohol regularly in a large amount may be harmful, as consumption of higher amount of alcohol may reduce the effectiveness of your medications.
If you do not consume alcohol, do not start drinking as a way to reduce blood pressure. Also if you are a regular consumer of alcohol do not stop intake of alcohol suddenly. Smoking also triggers blood pressure. Smokers often suffer with hypertension. Quitting smoking helps reduce blood pressure.
